Ryan Cheung

Ryan is the Co-founder of CTRC Design with over 10 years specialising in large-scale projects such as private villas, show flats, club houses and restaurants. These projects were mostly carried out in major cities for developers which were Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Dalian in China as well as in Hong Kong.

The reason why we chose 788 Star Club and INUF retail project to enter is because that the project itself already has a strong design concept, the clients for this two projects were eager to have something different. As such, they did not limit our concept and ideas and instead, let us to play with the design. We were both happy with the results and we have won Platinum and Rose Gold awards from Muse Award for the projects respectively.

For 788 Star Club, the location of Hengdian is a fourth-tier city in China, hence to execute a design project is difficult for the local contractor in terms of their experience, particular work on the details and workmanship. Before the site commencement and during the site coordination, our designers were spending much more effort and time to review mockups and samples in a short period of time, in order to achieve the design expectation for this project.

Winning an award is a simple way to get recognition for our design projects as we can let our potential and current clients know the kind of design work that we have been doing and to be defined by the design awards we have won.

It is a good start and a source of encouragement to receive the awards and recognition. If you want to get recognition of your works, submit your works to Muse Award is a good try as submissions can be done online, which is very convenient.

Seeing great designs or new product excites us. We like to pay attention to details and that can give us inspiration to create great things ourselves.

Designers should always broaden their visions as design is boundless and filled with unlimited imagination. We shouldn’t set a frame or limit for ourselves.

What’s helped me as a designer is always putting 100% effort into my work, learning from my mistakes and gaining experience from the past. Travelling is also very important as if you want to create great designs, you have to experience other great works and study it to get inspiration and see what’s the best.
