Southwest University of Chongqing | Linking Educational Information With Natural Experiences

Creating an inter-linking bond between the Southwest University district and Ma’anxi Park is the sole purpose of the construction of such a magnificent architectural structure.

The entirety of the project encompasses a pedestrian landscape bridge across the Southwest University of Chongqing's central area and Ma'anxi Park. The bridge imbues various symbolisms that are special to various users through its diverse spatial functions, on top of a regular bridge that allows people to go from one side to the other.

Strengthening the Link of Urban Function

Firstly, the bridge represents an interlinking bond between the university district and the dwelling complexities of the pathway to the park, forming a connection amongst all the beneficiaries throughout that journey. The 3D flow model of the bridge takes both vehicle and people’s walking path into consideration, making the interlinking bond even stronger, not just focusing on one aspect of the flow.

Utilizing Urban Welfare

The other aspect of the bridge is to revitalize the co-living environment for the residents of Ma'anxi Park, as well as the Southwest University district. This bridge would be able to overcome such a challenging landscape, creating social benefits via outdoor, open spaces. In time, this bridge will become a place that re-shapes the lives of many and re-defines the memories of others.

Triggering Regional Economic Vitality and Embracing the City's Identity

Located in Beibei District, Chongqing is surrounded by an abundant of natural and tourism resources, including, but not limited to: Jinyun Mountain and North Spring. Thus, the bridge helps to re-connect the city with nature, by bringing together the existing landscape with the new districts, inter-mixing them to become one.

As a summary, this project aims to remind people that nature will continue to affect people’s lives within this concrete infrastructural environment, as the Sun will continue shining and the rain will continue pouring down. The non-linear bridge invokes a feeling of everlasting solitude, a place where people can have room to re-evaluate themselves in a time of need, be it alone or with the closest people around them.
