BAY de LUNA | An Initiative by SHENZHENBAY MIXC

Project BAY de LUNA, initiated by SHENZHENBAY MIXC, is a cultural initiative that merges art, fashion, and lifestyle through a series of pop-up events, art exhibitions, and themed markets. The project, branded with the "BAY" name, reflects SHENZHENBAY MIXC’s effort to engage the Greater Bay Area community. The highlight of the project came during the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2023 with the unveiling of a large-scale art installation exhibition titled BAY de LUNA.

BAY de LUNA aims to blend traditional Chinese festivals with modern, captivating concepts to create emotional resonance with the public. The project draws inspiration from ancient tales such as Chang'e's journey to the moon, using this mythological narrative to guide innovative design.

Partnering with Walmart, BAY de LUNA explored the themes of reunion and emotional connection, essential elements of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Cats were used as symbols in various interactive scenes, representing the emotional bonds between humans and their pets, with each cat form portraying a different aspect of these relationships in contemporary life.

The name "LUNA" links to both the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year and Roman mythology's moon goddess, serving as a symbol for the Mid-Autumn Festival. The concept imagines LUNA wandering through the urban landscape, with installations across SHENZHENBAY MIXC telling a story that connects various spaces within the venue. The public had the freedom to explore and interact with these displays, transforming the exhibition into a dynamic public experience.

Innovative materials like resin fibre were used to create the intricate cat structures, with the texture of the material mimicking fur. This design choice brought the art to life, encouraging viewers to reflect on their connections with animals and nature. The use of sustainable and creative materials highlights the project’s dedication to merging art with environmental consciousness.

BAY de LUNA represents a successful integration of art, commerce, and urban life, illustrating how public spaces can serve as platforms for sustainable, emotionally engaging art. The project marked a significant venture into the creation of artistic IP within a commercial setting.
