European Photography Awards Announces The Early Winners of Editorial Photography

In accordance with the release of early results in the 2022 European Photography Awards, astounding photographers have demonstrated their prowess and professionalism in the fields of photography, ranging across multitudinous categories that encircle all types of images. Amongst these classifications, Platinum winners of Editorial Photography will be featured in the article for today, expanding their stories through the use of photographs.

Night of Europe | Antonio Denti

Depicting the backstories of war, Antonio wanted to portray the rehearsal of Italy’s Republic Day, a military parade made by thousands of Italian armed forces matching through the deserted centre of the city. As it was a photographical event that was rarely captured, it was a sight to behold with tens of thousands of armed soldiers. Wandering through the Roman night alongside them, Antonio reminisced in highly symbolic places for Italy’s recent memory of war.

The Duchess | Marc Le Cornu

The photographer of this image, Marc Le Cornu set out to capture the arrival of ‘Duchess’, a brand new tug boat into service on the island of Jersey. With main intentions of conveying senses of power, motion and beauty altogether, he operated a drone from a pilot boat not far from it, and contacted the captain in performing an ocean ‘donut’ for the sake of the image. The results were fantastic, resembling a flower with the Duchess perfectly positioned in the center of the image.

The absurdity of war | Diego Fedele

Diego has been through many complications, and when he entered the Barabashovo market of Kharkiv, he only found mannequins scattered across the floor in one of the shops, instead of finding a busy or lively scene. When he heard sounds of artillery in the background, it instantly reminded him of the Church of St. Andrew Pervozvanoho in Bucha. Through research of the destroyed Ukrainian cities, Diego channeled them into a sequence that shows the absurdity of war.

Long Jumper | Domenic Aquilina

A crucial part of Editorial Photography is the presentation of sports and athletes, and Domenic has taken the opportunity to snap the achievements of Claire Azzopardi who claimed the gold medal and a new personal best of 6.21 meters in the women’s long jump during the Athletics Championships of the Small States of Europe 2022. The image was taken at the Matthew Micallef St. John Stadium in Marsa, Malta on 11 June 2022.
