Dash Dot Creations Revolutionizes Legacy with The Medium Trailer

Bloober Team S.A. recruited Dash Dot Creations in producing a third-person psychological video game that would be the talk of the gaming industry for its realistic graphics!

Bloober Team.S.A. is a game developer from Poland that is best known for creating Observer System Redux and Layers of Fear and was looking for a skilled group of individuals to produce a trailer for its video game, The Medium! It explores a medium by the name of Marianne who possesses psychic abilities that allows her to travel freely to the spirit realm.

Dash Dot Creations shoulders the weight of being in charge of the biggest CGI implementations that the gaming development has ever witnessed. They were tasked with fully producing the trailer including motion-capture sessions, produce 3D models, animations, render, lighting and even post production! Such a task is no small feat but if any team can pull it off, its Dash Dot Creations!

The 3D modelling of both the characters and the surroundings were produced with such realism and posed to be a challenge for the accomplished team but alas persevered in demonstrating their dexterity in assembling a gripping trailer. They modelled St. Mary’s Basilica with the medieval altar of Wit Stwosz, the Krakow market square with cloth hall as well as the protagonist, Marianne.

In the trailer, Marianne appears with different lighting and the team had to create a shade for her skin that would work best with the lighting given, whether it was a night scene, a winter blizzard scene or even under bright lighting. In addition to that, part of the plot is set in the 1980’s and the team had to adjust the essence of protagonist’s fashion and hairstyle so that it is in line with the fashion of the Polish People’s Republic at the time. The lengths that the team went through in perfecting every scene to ensure that the trailer was perfect is truly remarkable!

The team also had to bring Zdzisław Beksiński’s painting’s to life which required the use of VFX and deconstructing part of the cathedral in a scene where everything was falling apart called the use of 3dsmax particular simulations truly was an amazing skill! Producing a trailer for video game, The Medium allowed the team to gain experience, giving them more recognition as a capable studio in producing animations and trailers in the gaming industry.

The amount of attention to detail the trailer encompasses was breathtaking, such as the freckles on the skin, the way tears welled up in Marienne’s eyes, the way it snows was incredibly lifelike which warranted an award from the 2022 VEGA Digital Awards under the category of Video/Online Video (Single) – Best Animation / Special Effects.
