Yasumichi Morita

Yasumichi Morita is a designer based in Japan, where his firm GLAMOROUS is known for providing glamorous design in various domains such as interior, graphic and product works.

I’ve been interested in fashion since my teenage years. During my high school years, I worked part-time on a window display and got a reputation for my work.

When I was 18, I completed the design of a bar named “COOL” in Kobe, Japan, and it’s been featured in design magazines, which was the major turning point in my life as an interior designer. I have no experience studying at any professional schools but I’ve carved out my career by myself instead.

Like the previous question, my strong passion for fashion and design from the time of being a teenager led me to this world.

In 2000, I established a design office “GLAMOROUS co.,ltd.” Since starting with a project in Hong Kong in 2001, we have successfully broadened our appeal to New York, London, Paris, Doha and other major cities.

We have engaged in the renovation project of “ISETAN Shinjuku Store” in 2013, and in recent years in Shibuya area where massive redevelopment is moving ahead once every 100 years, we completed commercial environmental design for “Tokyu Plaza Shibuya” which opened in December, 2019.

“Design” is the way to bring success into projects/business, in which I believe “Design” is different from art. It is also important for me that “Design” should bring happiness to everyone involved.

I like creativity regardless of the type of art or design. My interest has no borders.

Our design process is relevant to my comments about design process.

Relevant to my comments about design process.

We do not start designing from the style, but we start by pursuing what is required and thinking about what can lead to the success of each project/business, and then put it into the design. I believe design is not just how it looks but how it works in business. This process makes for a “good design” to me.

Yes, our country, Japan has its own beauty and has nuanced things like the praise of shadows, four seasons, unique aesthetic sense, delicate sensations and hospitalities, all of which have an impact on me in one way or another.

Thank you! It helps motivate all of us!

The location of project “Kashikojima” is where the Ise-Shima Summit (42nd G7 summit) was held in 2016, with a great view along the Rias coast.

We focused on creating continuity between the beautiful landscape and the building, we designed the line-of-sight from all guest-rooms through to Ise Bay which makes guests relax in silent nature. The other architectural point is that we covered the existing building facade with modern designed stainless-steel layer, allowing it blend into the landscape and mountains.

Creating the guest room's interior to integrate a room and a bath (hot spring) room. It was a new challenge and the difficulty for us was to create a breathtaking view from the bed, the bathtub or wherever you are in the room. We believe we have succeeded in that goal.

(As my comment in A9) I would suggest all things delicate and nuanced - as for example Praise of Shadows and Four seasons, Aesthetic sense, Delicate sensations, Hospitalities.

I think that various things will keep changing and be sorted out in a society full of information and goods.

See and experience different worlds as much as you can!

To see and experience different worlds with your own eyes and passion.

People who have been leading the night life industry in Japan, Artists and creators active in the world, and all the people I've met. I wouldn't be the person I am today without them.

I have not succeeded yet and I’m sorry I can't say anything special, but I just always hope for everyone’s happiness.
