Ksenia Serebrennikova is an interior designer whose passion for art and architecture began early in life and grew into a career spanning more than ten years. Her approach focuses on creating purposeful interiors that connect creativity, functionality, and the way people experience a space.
With more than a decade of professional experience, I have always believed that meaningful design should stand up to the highest international standards. Participating in the NY Architectural & Interior Design Awards was a natural step in my professional journey as I expanded my practice into the United States.
I was inspired by the opportunity to present my work on one of America's most respected design platforms and have it evaluated by an international jury. Recognition from this award carries significant weight because it reflects professional excellence.
What made this experience especially meaningful was that it was my very first participation in a U.S. interior design award, and I became a winner. For me, this recognition confirmed that the design principles I have developed over more than ten years of practice resonate on an international level and are valued by the global design community. It also marked an important milestone in my professional journey in the United States.
The defining concept behind this award-winning project was to create a meaningful dialogue between history and contemporary living. I believe that when a building has architectural and cultural significance, its interior should not ignore that identity. Instead, it should reinterpret it for modern life with respect, sensitivity, and clarity.
Rather than recreating a historical interior, my goal was to translate the building's architectural heritage into a contemporary design language. Inspired by elegant French influences, I introduced refined proportions, soft forms, and delicate details to create a feminine, timeless atmosphere while preserving the character and dignity of the historic architecture. Carefully selected shades of green further reinforced the connection to the building's heritage and added depth to the overall narrative.
For me, great design is not about choosing between history and modernity. It is about allowing them to coexist. I believe historic spaces deserve a new life that honors their past while responding to the needs of the present. This philosophy has become one of the defining principles of my work, transforming architecture into interiors that are both culturally meaningful and deeply relevant to the people who live in them.
My journey into interior design began long before it became my profession. From an early age, I was fascinated by art, architecture, and the way thoughtfully designed spaces can shape how people feel and live. That passion led me to attend art school, where I spent four years developing my artistic foundation, and later to earn a degree in Environmental Design.
For me, design has never been simply a profession. It is my calling. I believe creativity is a gift, and that through my work I can transform that inspiration into spaces that have meaning and purpose. Every project begins with intuition, but it is supported by knowledge, experience, and a deep understanding of architecture, proportion, materials, and the way people interact with their environment.
My mission is to make people's lives more comfortable, more inspiring, and more beautiful through design. I strive to create interiors that not only function exceptionally well but also evoke emotion, tell a story, and leave a lasting impression. After more than ten years of professional practice, this philosophy continues to guide every project I create.
The mission of my studio is to create spaces that improve people's lives. I believe that design is far more than aesthetics. A well-designed environment has the power to restore energy, inspire creativity, support well-being, and shape the way people experience everyday life.
In residential projects, my goal is to create timeless interiors that feel deeply personal, comfortable, and filled with light. Every home should become a place where people can recharge, find balance, and truly feel connected to themselves.
In commercial projects, I see design as a strategic business tool. Thoughtful interiors should strengthen a brand's identity, create memorable customer experiences, and contribute to the long-term success and profitability of a business.
Ultimately, my mission is to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also meaningful, spaces that positively influence the people who live, work, and interact within them.
Working with a historic building always presents unique challenges because each structure has its own history, character, and technical limitations. One of the biggest challenges in this project was adapting the existing architecture to a new functional layout while preserving the integrity and safety of the building.
During the renovation process, we encountered an unexpected structural issue when we discovered that one of the walls originally planned for removal was actually supporting important structural elements. Thanks to the careful attention and expertise of the construction team, the issue was identified before any damage occurred. We revised the design documentation and adjusted the layout to respect the building’s original structure while still achieving the desired functionality.
Another significant challenge was restoring the existing floors and adapting outdated systems to modern requirements. The process required extensive work, including rebuilding parts of the flooring, redesigning several functional areas, and coordinating approvals and documentation.
Ultimately, these challenges influenced the final result in a positive way. They allowed us to create a more thoughtful design that respects the building’s history while bringing it new life and adapting it to contemporary living standards.
My design process is structured, methodical, and always begins with a deep understanding of the client and the space itself. The first stage is a detailed consultation, where I study the client's lifestyle, needs, preferences, and vision for the project. I also analyze the architectural features and unique characteristics of the space.
After visiting and measuring the property, I develop the initial design concept and explore different planning solutions. This stage creates the foundation for the entire project, ensuring that the space is not only aesthetically beautiful but also functional and tailored specifically to the client.
Once the concept and layout are approved, I develop technical solutions, including lighting, electrical planning, material selection, and detailed documentation. The next step is creating 3D visualizations that allow the client to experience the future interior before implementation begins.
My goal throughout the entire process is to create a seamless connection between the initial idea and the final result, ensuring that every detail reflects the client's personality and the architectural character of the space.
If I had to describe the journey of this project in three words, they would be: Heritage, Function, and Experience.
Heritage represents the history and architectural identity of the building. The goal was to preserve the character of the historic space and reinterpret its story through a contemporary interior language.
Function reflects the importance of creating a space that is not only beautiful but also comfortable, ergonomic, and designed around the way people live. Every planning decision was made with the user’s experience in mind.
Experience represents the emotional connection created through the interior. Through the combination of architecture, materials, colors, and details, the project was designed to create a unique atmosphere that feels meaningful, inspiring, and personal to the client.
One of the most meaningful aspects of my work is hearing how deeply my interiors impact my clients’ lives. Many clients tell me that the final result exceeds their expectations and that they receive much more than they originally imagined.
For this particular project, the feedback was especially memorable. The clients and their guests were truly inspired by the transformation of the space. The interior created such a strong emotional response that it became more than just a beautiful environment; it became a place with character, atmosphere, and a unique identity.
Throughout my career, clients have often shared that after moving into a thoughtfully designed space, they feel more comfortable, energized, and inspired in their daily lives. I believe a well-designed interior has the power to transform not only the environment but also the way people experience their lives. My goal is always to create spaces that restore energy, bring harmony, and help people feel their best.
Receiving this award is a very meaningful milestone in my professional journey. It was my first U.S. interior design award, and becoming a winner with my very first participation was an especially significant achievement for me.
Throughout my career, I have received international recognition for my work, but this award represents something new: recognition from the American design community. It confirms that my design approach, my professional experience, and the quality of my projects are valued at an international level and resonate with the standards of the U.S. design industry.
For my studio, this recognition strengthens our commitment to creating exceptional interiors that combine creativity, functionality, and a deep understanding of people and architecture. It is not only an award, but also an important step in establishing my presence as an interior designer in the United States.
This award will have a meaningful impact on my future projects and professional growth. It strengthens the trust and confidence that clients place in my work, demonstrating that my design approach and achievements have been recognized by the American design community.
For clients, this recognition represents an additional level of confidence when choosing to work with my studio. It reflects my commitment to creating high-quality, thoughtful interiors and reinforces my reputation as a designer who delivers exceptional results.
On a broader level, this award supports my continued growth within the U.S. design industry. It opens new opportunities for collaboration, professional connections, and projects that allow me to continue developing my creative vision and contribute to the international design community.
One of the areas I would love to explore further is the creation of unique commercial and creative spaces, especially environments designed for children. I believe children’s spaces have incredible potential because they can influence imagination, curiosity, and emotional development. Creating an environment where children feel inspired, comfortable, and free to explore is something that deeply motivates me.
I am currently working on a children’s space project in the United States, and this experience has strengthened my desire to continue developing projects in this direction.
I am also inspired by creative retail and hospitality interiors, spaces that have a strong identity and create a memorable experience for people. I especially enjoy working with historic buildings, high ceilings, rich textures, and expressive color palettes because these elements allow me to create interiors with character and emotional depth.
Ultimately, I am drawn to projects where design goes beyond decoration and becomes an experience, where architecture, creativity, and human emotions come together to create spaces that people remember.
I believe the next decade will bring a significant transformation to the architecture and interior design industry, driven by the rapid development of artificial intelligence, automation, and smart technologies.
The role of interior design will evolve far beyond creating beautiful spaces. Future interiors will become more intelligent, adaptive, and personalized. Smart systems will increasingly manage lighting, climate, energy efficiency, security, and everyday functions, allowing spaces to respond naturally to the needs and habits of the people who live in them.
However, I believe that technology will never replace the creative vision of a designer. AI can become a powerful tool that helps optimize processes and explore possibilities, but the ability to create meaningful concepts, understand human emotions, and develop spaces with character will remain uniquely human.
My contribution to this evolution is to combine innovation with a deep understanding of people and architecture. I want to create interiors that embrace new technologies while preserving the emotional, artistic, and human qualities that make spaces truly inspiring. The future of design is not only about smarter homes, but about creating environments that allow people to live more consciously, comfortably, and creatively.
I believe that the future of interior design lies in creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also meaningful, sustainable, and deeply connected to the needs of the people who experience them.
My projects contribute to this evolution through a combination of thoughtful planning, functionality, ergonomics, and a deep understanding of how architecture and interiors influence human experiences. I focus on creating timeless spaces that maintain their value over time, while respecting the character of existing architecture and bringing new life to historic environments.
As an established interior designer with more than a decade of professional experience and international recognition, I am continuing to expand my design practice in the United States. My goal is to develop my studio into a recognized American interior design brand with a global reputation, including the creation of exceptional interiors, furniture, and design products.
Through my work, I aim to create spaces that serve both people and businesses. In commercial projects, I design environments that strengthen brand identity, create memorable experiences, and contribute to business growth. In residential projects, I create interiors that restore energy, inspire, and improve the quality of everyday life.
Ultimately, my vision is to contribute to the future of interior design by combining artistic vision, innovation, technology, and a deep understanding of human needs to create spaces that have lasting value and impact.
If I could create any project without limitations, I would want to design the most inspiring and recognizable children’s homes in the world.
I dream of creating spaces for children who have grown up without parental care, places where they can truly feel at home, receive love and support, and have every opportunity to grow and develop. For me, it would not be just an interior, but a complete environment that helps children become more confident, discover their talents, gain knowledge, build friendships, and explore the world.
I would create warm, caring, and inspiring spaces where every detail communicates to a child: “You matter, you are loved, and you have a future.” These homes would combine modern technology, comfort, and thoughtful design while preserving a feeling of warmth, kindness, and belonging.
I believe that space has the power to influence people's lives. My dream is to create interiors that help children feel safe, emotionally supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. For me, this would be a project where design becomes a true tool for transforming lives.
