Interview with Yu-Shan Shen of AUSIYA DESIGN

Yu-Shan Shen

Yu-Shan Shen, starting out as an industrial designer, has nurtured a lifelong fascination with imaginative spatial concepts and enhancing functionality and aesthetics within them since an early age.

My name is Yu-Shan Shen. I began my career as an industrial designer. Since I was young, I have always had a vivid imagination of space and many ideas about how to make spaces interesting, functional and beautiful.

After starting my career, I still had a strong desire to work in architecture and interior design. I began as an assistant at a firm and as I learned more about space design, I was assured that it was my passion. In 2009, I decided to study interior design in the United Kingdom which brought me a lot of inspiration. After completing my studies, I returned to my home country and continued to work in space design until now.

I want to help users solve problems and add aesthetics to their space.

I established AUSIYA DESIGN and hold the position of founder. My main responsibilities involve overseeing company operations, interacting with clients, and engaging in the design process.

To me, design is to provide current and future lifestyles and it must be innovative, practical, and aesthetically pleasing.

What I like about design is that we are able to incorporate innovation, practicality, and aesthetic appeal while also conducting a thorough review of the details from small to large during the design process.

It must be functional, solve users' problems and have aesthetics without excessive complexity.

My design style is mainly modern and minimalist. I believe that when designing a space, it is necessary to fully understand the user, consider everything from small details to environmental conditions and plan out unique features and personalities for each space. At the same time, aesthetic sense is also an important aspect.

In the design process, I always start by talking to the users to understand their needs, observing the environment and spatial conditions. Then, I brainstorm on ideas, sketch them out, discuss and review them. The reviewing process sparks even more ideas, and ultimately, the most suitable design concept is realized and presented.

My home country is extremely convenient in terms of lifestyle and environment, so in my designs, I pay particular attention to practicality and aesthetics. I also infuse each design with life and showcase its unique character.

I am thrilled to have won an award! Winning this award is a recognition and encouragement for our company. Design is our passion and we will strive even harder in the field of design.

This project is my own home, different from other design projects. It was a long-awaited project for me, during which I had different ideas sparked by my family. I also had to envision the future lifestyle while exhibiting practical functionality, comfort and aesthetics.

The project's environmental conditions offered rare green landscapes in urban living, so I incorporated this greenery into the interior design to showcase a unique aesthetic that is in harmony with the environment.

Everyone's lifestyle habits and visions of the future are different so communication was definitely a challenge for this project.

We will share this award on media platforms, hoping to bring more opportunities for expressing and practicing our spectacular designs!

1. Diverse design projects. For the opportunity to envision and realize various worldviews as each project comes with different environments, needs, and conditions.

2. Each project presents unique challenges.

3. Seeing the joy and satisfaction on clients' faces when presenting my work is a rewarding experience.

Life in my country moves at a fast pace so it's essential to think and design quickly while still considering details and aesthetics.

Observing the environment and the world can provide inspiration and ideas for design.

I'm not sure how to define success. The different people, projects, and conditions encountered on the design path are all fascinating and keep me enthusiastic about exploring the future of design.
