Hello World! I'm Chun-Yi Lu, a 29-year-old Graphic Designer and you can call me "Eight". I graduated from a private university of science and technology and graduated with a bachelor's degree in visual communication design from the "Night Department".
I am currently a graphic designer at BaHaus Design Studio, I have Asperger's which allows me to see my beloved work from a different and unique perspective. This creates limitless conceptual blueprints for my hometown.
In fact, I spent a total of eight years in college, and for the first four years, I was unable to adapt to the original industrial management course, which made me wonder how I could stand on my own even though I was drawing and doodling almost every day. At that time, I skipped school every day because I couldn’t understand the industrial management course.
However, one wonderful night, I heard a voice clearly in my ears: "Oh! Don't you like to draw? What are you going to do after studying? "Strange to say, because of that voice, I changed my mind and immediately changed to the Department of Visual Communication Design. I work very hard to realize my dream of becoming a designer.
BaHaus Design Studio mainly creates special conceptual design works for my hometown and managed to turn ideals and dreams into practice and results. Presently, BaHaus Design Studio design scope includes: brand identity system design, graphic design, advertising design, packaging design and more.
I think design is a synthesis of three processes: feeling, touching, and moving. All three processes are indispensable!
I love brand identity system design because it represents all the great stories, all the good feelings, all the ideas that touch people's hearts and all the results of being moved by a brand.
Completing a design or project feels great, but what really matters is the emotional impact it has on people, and that's what makes for good design.
I enjoy incorporating traditional Chinese colors into my design plans, infusing the essence of Chinese culture into the visual aspects, concepts, and final outcomes of my work.
I have a habit of thoroughly examining and personally connecting with the object I'm designing. I document my emotions, how it impacts me, and ultimately, I employ creative ideas to craft the ideal and flawless piece.
As a Chinese individual, I have been immersed in Chinese culture since I was a child, so I use traditional Chinese colors as the basis to understand and feel the whole design process.
I think it makes it even more important for me to actively and continuously create designs that moves people's hearts.
This is my first MUSE Design Awards and I have only registered two concept works:
A) Reconstruction of Taoyuan City Emblem Identity.
B) Shimen Dam Brand Concept Identity Plan.
Both concept works won silver awards in the conceptual category! The first is the Reconstruction of Taoyuan City Emblem Identity which is a unique concept emblem designed for my hometown with my identity as a Taoyuan person which represents the era of Taoyuan people's humble attitude, ethnic equality and harmony.
The Shimen Dam Brand Concept Identity Plan centers around the Shimen Dam Scenic Area, which was previously the largest reservoir in the Far East. It draws inspiration from the challenges faced in the past and captures the sentiments and emotions of the people.
In terms of vision, color, and concept, it captures the breath-taking sensation of gazing out at from the Shimen Dam, as well as the delightful feeling of leisure and relaxation while enjoying the scenic surroundings. This conceptual brand identity plan has been crafted to encompass these experiences. I'm eager to introduce these two concept works, both deeply connected to showcase my hometown to the global audience.
The biggest challenge of the two concept works is how to move people's hearts with a single moment!
It makes me more determined to pursue my dream of becoming a graphic designer in my hometown, one step at a time, with humility.
A) I can see many aspiring designers and dreamers who are waiting to build dreams.
B) The joy of dreaming and designing for dreamers.
C) See dreamers smile brightly and hopefully because of the works I designed for them.
I believe that design tools have significantly improved in recent years. While in the next 5-10 years, some tasks might be automated by generative AI, I still think that the human ability to feel, connect, and evoke emotions is irreplaceable. So, I find it unlikely that all design work will be fully automated.
Love your work and stay passionate about design. Let your own emotions and the ability to connect with others fuel your creations, ensuring they touch people's hearts.
What matters most in design isn't the tools or techniques, but whether the work can touch people emotionally. So, the crucial elements are feeling, connecting, and evoking emotions, which are the real design skills.
I would like to talk to all the students studying in the Department of Visual Communication Design in the "Night Department": "The mind is everything, What you think you become."
I want to express my gratitude to all the teachers who generously guided and advised me on my academic challenges. I'm also thankful for their valuable guidance in improving my design skills for special college projects.
I want to express my gratitude to my great instructors and even the tough judges. Thank you for pushing me to excel. I also appreciate those who doubted and challenged me because it's through their skepticism and challenges that I developed my skills. I'm especially thankful for the supportive voices that kept me going and prevented me from giving up. Throughout this journey, it's been my teachers and friends who've been my constant support and inspiration
