I was born in France into an artistic family where creativity was a natural part of life. After studying fashion design and interactive design, I began my professional journey in 2018.
In 2020, I founded my namesake brand, Claudia Wang, which integrates art, fashion, and cutting-edge technology. My collections have been showcased at both Taipei and London Fashion Weeks. The core of my work is exploring how art, culture, and sustainability can blend with fashion to create both visual and conceptual narratives.
My upbringing in a creative environment nurtured my love for art and design. Fashion, to me, is a medium where I can combine multiple forms of artistic expression, from visual arts to technology. The ability to explore cultural narratives and challenge conventional aesthetics is what truly drew me to fashion design.
My aim has always been to create pieces that not only look beautiful but also tell a deeper story.
Claudia Wang is a fashion brand that reflects my passion for merging art with technology. We are pioneering virtual fashion shows and using 3D virtual technology to reduce fabric waste and optimize production.
Our collections are rooted in bold aesthetics and sustainable practices. I oversee the creative direction of the brand, and I also work closely with a talented team to push the boundaries of fashion into new realms like virtual fashion and metaverse experiences.
Design, for me, is a powerful form of storytelling. It’s a way to express complex ideas through visual language. It is also about solving problems—whether through sustainability, cultural commentary, or technological innovation.
Every piece I create carries a narrative that reflects the intersection of art, culture, and the individual.
I am most drawn to designs that merge art with technology. The possibilities are endless when these two worlds collide, allowing for the creation of pieces that are both functional and aesthetically rich. I also have a love for asymmetry and vibrant colors, which bring energy and a sense of rebellion to my collections.
A good design is one that resonates emotionally with the audience while also being innovative. It should challenge norms and have a clear purpose.
For me, sustainability is a key component of good design—using eco-friendly materials and optimizing production processes is essential to creating meaningful, responsible fashion.
My design style is characterized by vibrant colors, bold patterns, and the seamless integration of digital technology. I often play with asymmetry in my cuts and silhouettes to break traditional norms. Sustainability is also at the heart of my designs, with a focus on reducing waste and using eco-friendly materials.
My design process always begins with extensive research and inspiration, often derived from art, culture, and technology. I create sketches, build prototypes, and experiment with materials, always keeping sustainability in mind. 3D virtual technology is integral to streamlining the production process, minimizing waste while allowing creative freedom.
Absolutely. My home country is rich in cultural heritage and it greatly influences my work, especially in the way I approach symbolism, color, and the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. I strive to bring my culture to a global audience through my designs, offering a fresh perspective on our unique identity.
Winning the 2024 MUSE Design Awards is a tremendous honor. It validates our hard work and dedication to pushing the boundaries of fashion by integrating art and technology.
This award not only raises our brand’s profile internationally but also reinforces our commitment to sustainability and innovation. It serves as a testament to the incredible efforts of my team.
The winning project, showcased at the Tate Modern, encapsulates our core values—melding fashion with art and technology. The collection explores the concept of time and transformation, utilizing virtual avatars and interactive elements to create a futuristic and immersive experience.
I chose this project because it embodies our forward-thinking approach and our desire to push the boundaries of what fashion can be.
The biggest challenge was integrating virtual and physical elements into a cohesive narrative that resonated with both audiences and critics. Balancing cutting-edge technology with traditional craftsmanship required precise planning and a collaborative approach across different disciplines.
Winning this award has opened new doors for collaborations and increased our international exposure. It has also given me the confidence to continue pushing boundaries in terms of sustainability and digital innovation. The recognition has been a catalyst for growth, both creatively and professionally.
I love the constant evolution of fashion, the endless opportunities for cross-industry collaborations, and the growing focus on sustainability. These elements keep the industry dynamic and forward-thinking.
My home country is a fusion of traditional and modern influences. Our cultural heritage, combined with cutting-edge technology, positions my home country uniquely in the global design industry. There’s a special blend of craftsmanship and innovation that makes Taiwanese design stand out.
I see the design industry increasingly embracing digital and virtual technology. Virtual fashion is likely to become mainstream, and sustainability will remain a key focus, as designers innovate ways to reduce waste and minimize their environmental impact.
I would encourage students to embrace technology and remain curious. The industry is always evolving, and those who can adapt and innovate will thrive. Stay true to your creative vision, but also be open to collaboration and learning from other fields.
I recommend learning 3D virtual design tools and staying up-to-date on sustainability practices. Networking with professionals from different industries is also crucial. Resources like Vogue Business and Designboom are excellent for keeping abreast of industry developments.
One of my dreams is to create a completely virtual fashion brand, where each piece exists only in the digital realm, pushing the boundaries of what fashion can be.
My biggest inspiration is my family, especially my parents, who instilled in me a love for art and creativity from a young age. Their influence have shaped my approach to both design and life.
My key to success is perseverance and staying true to my vision. Surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you, and never stop learning.
I’m incredibly excited about the future of fashion, particularly the possibilities within the virtual space. Thank you for this opportunity to share my journey.
